Da contracapa:
“In 1961 Portugal’s colonial system was challenged by the revolt of Angola: in 1963 Portugal admitted that guerrilla forces controlled a large area of Guinea; and in 1964 the Portuguese faced armed insurrection in Mozambique.

William Minter explains how Portuga, a backward and underdeveloped country, dwarfed in size and natural resources by the African possessions, was able to maintain a façade of colonial harmony until 1961, and can still govern oppressively. He emphasizes her reliance on a ‘good working relationship’ with the United States, analyses the ways in which American policy has upheld Portuguese influence in Africa, and discusses the involvement of Portugal’s other Allies, including South Africa and Britain, in her African policies.

‘PORTUGUESE AFRICA AND THE WEST’ makes an important contribution to the history of relations between Africa and the West, and strongly indicts the ‘Free World’ for its defence of colonialism.“
