- ‘Desmond Donnelly in Angola’
When Desmond Donnelly, labour MP for Pembroke, set out on a recent visit to Portugal’s African colonies, he went, he says, as a firm believer in racial equality.
His tour of Angola and Mozambique didn’t shake him in this belief - ‘but’, he says, ‘I realise now that the pratical problems of equality can only be resolved in the course of many generations’. Mr. Donnelly’s mission brought him very close to danger; as he relates in his article beginning on page 10, he escaped serious injury by only a few feet when the convoy in which he was travelling was ambushed in the Mozambique bush.
Though this was Mr. Donnelly’s first visit to Africa, he is an experienced traveller and the author of five books...
