O AUTOR:
“FRANCISCO NOTA MOISÉS was educated at the Zobué school in Tete province in Mozambique. He left Mozambique in 1967 in ordem to avoada military conscription in the portuguese Army. He then joined FRELIMO and was sent to its Mozambique Institute school in Dar-es-salam, Tanzânia. There he found many of the students in a State of rebellion against the leadership of the late Eduardo Mondlane, Samora Machel, Joaquim Chissano and Marcelino dos Santos. In 1969, Mr. Moisés fled to Kenia. With a UN scholarship, he resumed studies at Eastieigh Secondary School and later at the Aga Khan Academy. In 1976, he joined the BBC Monitoring Service in Nairobi.
In 1975, when Mozambique became independent, Mr. Moisés, fearing his old enemies in FRELIMO, remained in Kenya. In 1983, he took a job in Swaziland, but, in 1985, returned to Kenya. At this point, he became actively involved as an information officer for RENAMO. He was able to tour RENAMO-conteolled areas of Mozambique several times. His was always a civillian, rather than a military role. In 1987, Mr. Moisés came to Canadá as a sponsored refugee, after learning from reliabe sources of threats made against him by FRELIMO whose long arm reaches into neighbouring countries. His presence quickly attracted the attention of pro-Mozambique leftists who demanded his removal from Canadá. Since 1989, Mr. Moisés has given up active politics to pursue a writing career in both journalism and fiction. He now lives in Victoria, British Columbia.“
